HAIR TODAY: Eliminate Pet Hair so it’s Gone Tomorrow

You love your dog, but pet hair unfortunately is part of the deal. While many people avoid wearing black so the hair is not so visible, there are ways you can help to reduce and sometimes eliminate pet hair in your home.

  • First and foremost, sweep and vacuum almost every day, say the maid service specialists at MOLLY MAID – especially if you have along-haired cat or dog.
  • Remember that the more frequently you brush pets, the more hair ends up on a brush and not on your floors and furniture.
  • Consider brushing your pet outside. You’ll see many pet owners brushing their dogs in the park, and then putting the hair in the garbage cans there.
  • Use sticky rolls or lint brushes to remove pet hair from furniture, clothing and car interiors.
  • Wipe surfaces with a damp cloth (to pick up hair more effectively).
  • Talk to your vet or pet store about pet shampoo that helps reduce shedding.
  • Have the animal groomed regularly if he or she seems to lose a lot of hair.
  • Cover pillows and mattresses with impermeable anti-dust-mite covers. (Cover beds and couches if pets are allowed on them, with old throws that you can wash regularly.)
  • Consider using a HEPA air filter in the bedroom and family room, and on the vacuum (or use a central vacuum system).
  • Consider getting rid of carpets and make the switch to hardwood. Non-carpeted floors prevent the accumulation of pet hair.
