Clean Schemes: 4 Cleaning Shortcuts

Summertime and the living is easy – but not with children at home all day, traipsing dust and dirt into your home! Here are a few cleaning shortcuts from the professional domestic cleaners, MOLLY MAID, which you can use to keep your home cleaner, between your usual cleaning days.

Keep clutter to a minimum: Having lots of ‘stuff’ around encourages dust and allergens to collect. Ask everyone in the family to keep their clutter down and tidy it away. Put the cricket bat, frisbee and shopping bags away when you come home. Always put dirty clothes into the laundry basket. Put items that you use in the house away too, such as books, TV remotes and dirty dishes.

Stop dirt at the door: Use easy-to-clean nonslip, rubber floor mats at the front and back doors and ask everyone to wipe their shoes when they come in. If there are pets in the home, they should be brushed and toweled off (if wet) when they come inside too. This will protect floors and carpets from dirt, dust and pollen that may be dragged in from outside.

Shower power: Leave shower doors and curtains open after use so the shower walls can air dry. This will help prevent mould and mildew. Leave a daily shower spray in the shower too to reduce build-up of limescale. Ask older children and adults to use it on the showers walls and curtains.

Kitchen/dining area tidy up: Enforce a house rule that anyone who cooks or eats a meal has to clean up after themselves. Don’t leave crumbs and other food scraps on the floor or kitchen surfaces. Leave out a broom to encourage sweeping up.
