£1.6 Billion plus market

The domestic cleaning opportunity in Great Britain is worth over £1.6 billion and is set to grow.

The market valuation is based on research* commissioned by MOLLY MAID which according to the results 1.53 million GB households (6%) spend on average over £1.6 billion a year on outside help to clean their homes.

Among the reasons for high growth potential:

  • The increasing number of women working outside of the home who have less time to devote to household chores.
  • A rise in disposable income amongst a large percentage of the population.
  • A shift in priorities that places a greater emphasis on leisure and family enjoyment over domestic chores such as cleaning.
  • A greater social acceptance of having someone else clean your home.
  • An increase in the number of affluent retired people who would rather spend their time on more pleasurable pursuits.

It's easy to see why a time saving service such as domestic cleaning is an industry with an almost infinite capacity for growth.

*1981 interviews were conducted with GB adults aged 16+, face-to-face, in-home between 3-9th September 2010, using the IPOS MORI Capibus. The data presented are weighted and grossed to reflect the national profile of GB households (25.6 million households).
